PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler easily manufacturable without increasing the number of parts and capable of effectively reducing the noise in a desired frequency range. SOLUTION: A resonance chamber 11 communicating with an intake tube through a communication tube 14 is formed in a housing 12 composed of a box 15 having an opening 15c and a cover 16 closing the opening 15c. An adjustor 20 rotatable around a shaft 19 is installed in the resonance chamber 11. The adjustor 20 comprises an adjusting wall 20c capable of changing the degree of the opening of the opening 17 of the communication tube 14 in the resonance chamber 11 on the circular-arcuate surface around the shaft 19. Each of both lateral ends of the outer peripheral surface of the adjusting wall 20c faces the inner surface of the box 15 with a gap Q formed therebetween on both sides of the opening 17. The inner surfaces of a pair of ridge parts 18 formed on the inner surface of the box 15 face both lateral ends of the adjusting wall 20c with a gap Q formed therebetween.
