APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PACKET CONGESTION CONTROL IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus for controlling packet congestion in a mobile communication system and a method thereof are provided to make it possible to prevent packets from being lost and to reduce delay time needed in the congestion control by adjusting transmission rate at an intermediate node while transmitting packets, and controlling the packet congestion. A method for controlling packet congestion in a mobile communication system comprises the following several steps. A node 2 receives TCP/IP packets from a node 1(610). The node 1 discriminates and processes the received TCP/IP packets for each flow in an RLP(Radio Link Protocol) layer(615). The node 2 controls transmission rate of the discriminated and processed packets based on a congestion control request transmitted by a node 3(620). The node 2 performs an RLP multiplexing procedure(625). The node 2 discriminates the packets for each class, and transmits the discriminated packets to the node 3(630).
