<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for sending and receiving content enabling a reproducing device to reproduce content reserved for purchase, even when it is unable to connect to a network. <P>SOLUTION: In a content distribution system 20, interim content data is recorded in a database 22, the interim content data consisting of an interim license for permitting the reproduction of a data file in a limited manner by limiting the number of times that the data file is reproduced or the period of reproduction on condition that a data file of the same quality as the content to be sold and the content are reserved for purchase. Upon a request from the reproducing device 30, the interim content data are sent to the reproducing device 30. The reproducing device 30 receives and records the interim content data in a content data recording part 323.
