PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow to extract a desired scene or a program easily from a recording screen while avoiding increase of circuit size and cost increase in a picture information recording device and record replay method suitable for use in a television receiver in which a received program is constantly recorded in a hard disk drive as a recording medium. SOLUTION: In the display device, a screen area of a display is divided into a plurality of sub-screen areas 81A, 81B, 81C, and 81D. Screens divided on each given time periods are displayed as index pictures corresponding to the plurality of divided sub-screen areas 81A, 81B, 81C, and 81D. When a desired one is specified from the index pictures, a moving picture information corresponding to the specified index picture is extracted from the hard disk and displayed.
