PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system capable of easily achieving equalization of a luminance distribution on a light emitting surface of a light guide body, and particularly capable of increasing uniformity of a luminance distribution in the vicinity of a light source as compared with a conventional one; and to provide an electrooptical device using it.

SOLUTION: This lighting system 110 includes: the light sources 111; the light guide body 112 arranged oppositely to the light sources for introducing light from a light entering surface 112A extended in the width direction to emit it from the light emitting surface 112B by transmitting it in its inside. The lighting system is characterized in that a plurality of prism surfaces 112y and 112z extending in the thickness direction of the light guide body are arranged and formed on the light entering surface by being dispersed along the width direction; an arrangement density distribution viewed in the width direction of the prism surface on the light entering surface is gradually increased or decreased in response to a separating distance in the width direction from front surface positions 112a of the light sources.
