Provided are a composition for forming a light emitting layer, a light emitting layer comprising the composition, and an organic electroluminescent device containing the light emitting layer which has a low drive voltage and improved lifetime characteristics. The composition comprises: 0.001-20 wt% of a switching material which shows conductivity when a certain voltage is applied in nonconductive state, based on the total weight of the light emitting material in a light emitting layer; and a light emitting material. Preferably the voltage is 1-10 V. Preferably the switching material is at least one selected from the compounds represented by the formulas 1 to 8. Further the composition comprises at least one selected from a polymer host, a mixture of a polymer host and a lower molecular weight host, a lower molecular weight host, and a unemitting polymer matrix.
