The device has a robot (1) and a moveable arm (2). At the movable arm an application part is provided for a color which can be applied. Several color lines (51-5n) supply different colors to a color change mechanism. The color change mechanism (4) has two movable and close parts (11, 12) which are relatively joined together to each other in sections. One of the two parts (11, 12) is transferable from a first position into a second position so that in the first position a first color is supplied to the application part and a second color supplied in the second position. An independent claim is included for a color change mechanism.
