PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic element unit using magnetic domain dragging, and to provide a method of operating the unit. SOLUTION: The magnetic element unit 10 is provided with: a free layer 11 having a plurality of successive magnetic domains of switchable magnetization directions; and a reference layer 15 formed to correspond to some region of the free layer and having a pinned magnetization direction. The magnetic device unit 10 is provided with: a data-storing cell 20 formed, on the free layer, of an array of a plurality of data-bit sections in units of effective size of the reference layer so that a plurality of bits of data can be stored in the array; a first input section 40 electrically connected to at least one of the data-bit sections of the free layer and the reference layer to provide an input of at least one of a write signal and a read signal; and a second input section 50 adapted to provide an input of a dragging signal for magnetic dragging, the second input section being electrically connected to the free layer so as to drag the data stored in a data-bit section to the next data-bit section of the free layer.
