The instant invention relates to mesogenic media comprising one or more compounds comprising two phenyl rings, in which one or two non-adjacent =CH- groups may be replaced by N, each bearing three substituents and being bound to a mesogenic core, preferably comprising compounds of formula I
wherein the parameters are as specified in the text, preferably to mesogenic media showing a blue phase and their use in electro-optical light modulation elements and their respective use in displays, as well as to such devices. It also relates to the respective compounds.
