PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform stable display without being affected by variation in characteristic of cholesteric liquid crystal or a drive circuit IC. SOLUTION: A positive pulse and a negative pulse are set to be the maximum voltage in "erasing", the positive pulse and the negative pulse are set to be lower than the maximum voltage and set to be the upper limit voltage by taking variation in characteristics of the cholesteric liquid crystal into consideration in "select (writing)", "select (holding)" and "maintenance", each time of "the select (writing)" and "the select (holding)" is se to be the upper limit time by taking variation in characteristics of the cholesteric liquid crystal into consideration, each time of "the select (writing)" and "the select (holding)" is divided into five, the number of the positive pulses and the negative pulses are made equal to each other in "the select (holding)" and "the maintenance", and the number of continuous pulses of 0 V applied to the cholesteric liquid crystal is made smaller than a half of the division number upon "the select (holding)" and "the maintenance".
