A maintenance link using active/standby request channels is provided to reduce the number of CDMA channels required for maintaining a link which is synchronized with a multi-field unit by using a shared channel so that more channels and resources can be used to support the data transmission between a base station and filed units. In detecting a received coded signal, to which a lower rate code comprising at least two code sequences of a higher rate code is applied, the received coded signal is correlated with the higher rate code in order to provide a higher rate code correlation result. In order to provide the first lower rate code correlation result, a plurality of higher rate code correlation results are combined, based on the first lower rate code. In order to provide the second lower rate code correlation result, the higher rate code correlation results are combined, based on the second lower rate code. The existence of at least one coded signal is judged from the first and second lower rate code correlation results. The existence of the first indication corresponding to the first lower rate code is judged from the first lower rate code correlation result.
