PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetostriction element with a simple member configuration and excellent in the efficiency and the durability and to provide a flat acoustic apparatus employing the magnetostriction element. SOLUTION: The magnetostriction element includes a rod shaped magnetostriction member, a conductive coil wound on an outer circumference of the magnetostriction member, displacement direction conversion members for converting the displacement of the magnetostriction member in an axial direction into a direction nearly perpendicular to the axial direction, and first and second moving tip parts for clamping both ends of the rod shaped magnetostrictive member and operated in following to the displacement of the magnetostriction member in the axial direction, each of the displacement direction conversion members comprises an elastic member whose both ends are fixed between the first and second moving tip parts and is shaped convex wherein the convex direction directs outwardly from the magnetostriction member. The magnetostriction element is configured such that elastic deformation of the displacement direction conversion members can convert a displacement of the magnetostriction member in the axial direction at the first and second moving tip parts into the direction perpendicular to the axial direction.
