An apparatus and a method for providing a multimedia message in a mobile communication terminal are provided to temporarily set a portion of character codes as a control character, and map the control character with a command enabling a multimedia function, thereby employing the control character for an SMS service to transmit a multimedia message at a low coast. A storage unit(20) stores multimedia icons. A controller(30) maps a multi-message icon selected by a user with a control character, thereby transmitting the multi-message. The control character is mapped with a command of executing at least one of vibration, a ringing sound, a melody, a sound, and a moving picture. The control character is stored in a reservation area of KSC5601.
