A method for manufacturing an electron emission device, an electron emission device manufactured by using the same, and a backlight unit and an electron emission display device employing the electron emission device are provided to simplify a manufacturing process and reduce a manufacturing cost by using a self-alignment method. Cathode electrodes(120) are formed on substrates(90,110), and an emitter is formed on the cathode electrodes by patterning. Photosensitive glass paste is applied and dried on the substrate with the emitter to form a photosensitive glass paste layer which buries the emitter. The photosensitive glass paste layer is exposed, developed and calcined to form a gate insulating layer. A gate electrode is formed on a top surface of the gate insulating layer to form a three-electrode structure.
