A transport format detecting apparatus and a method thereof are provided to reduce a transport format detection time and power consumption by completing a decoding process with a smaller size than the maximum length based on difference between likehood information. A transport format detecting apparatus includes a decoding unit(10), a differential operational unit(23), a decoding control unit(24), and a detection unit(26). The decoding unit(10) calculates likelihood information of a plurality of paths to each state of a trellis diagram based on a received sequence to generate a decoding sequence. The differential operation unit(23) calculates a difference between the likelihood information of each state. The decoding control unit(24) stops generation of the decoding sequence by the decoding unit(10) based on the difference between the likelihood information. The detection unit(26) detects a transport unit based on a size of the generated decoding sequence. |
