PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of preventing air bubbles from being formed and also uniforming cell thicknesses compatibly. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device is provided with a first spacer 51 abutting on a lower substrate 2 and a second spacer 52 not abutting on the lower substrate 2, each of which erects from an upper substrate 3 toward a lower substrate 2. The first spacer 51 and the second spacer 52 are formed at the same height, and recessed parts 62 are formed on the surface of the lower substrate 2 facing the second spacers 52.
