PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cleaning performance by using a high concentration detergent solution by permitting the performance of a feed water stirring action by a lower water level while promoting the solution of a detergent during a low water temperature condition. SOLUTION: The washing machine is equipped with a water temperature sensor and a water level sensor and designed to automatically start a washing operation by the stirring action of a stirrer at the bottom of a washing tub bottom after water is supplied to a specified water level, and can selectively performs a feed water stirring action in one step or a plurality of steps by stopping water supply and driving the stirrer in accordance with the result of sensing by the water temperature sensor, and is set to perform the feed water stirring action in more steps than at normal water temperature time at the time when the water temperature sensor senses a low water temperature.
