A plasma display and a driving method thereof are provided to perform high speed scanning and reduce the length of one subfield by setting an address period between sustain periods of each sub-group of row electrodes and fully using the priming particles, which are generated in the sustain periods, during the address period. A method for driving a plasma display includes a step for dividing a plurality of row electrodes into first and second row groups(G1,G2) in a first subfield(SF1'); a step for initializing the discharge cell of the first row group into a light non-emitting cell; a step for selecting an emission cell among the discharge cells of the first row group; a step for initializing the discharge cell of the second row group into a non-emission cell, while initializing the discharge cell of the first row group into an emission cell and selecting an emission cell among the discharge cells of the first row group; a step for performing sustain discharge on the emission cell of the first row group; a step for selecting an emission cell among the discharge cells of the second row group; and a step for performing sustain discharge on the emission cell of the second row group.
