Printing press with an improved web threading device and corresponding web threading process

After the printing units (8) of the rotary offset press are placed in a throw-off configuration, the ends of a bar are fixed to the chains at the input of the first printing unit. The leading edge of the web of paper is fixed to the bar. A motor drives the chains to move the bar horizontally through the printing units. The bar pulls the web through the printing units to recover the leading edge of the web as it leaves the last printing unit. The bar engages the web in the unwinding devices and the dryer/cooler. An independent claim is also included for the method of engaging a web of paper in an offset printing press.
