A display apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to enhance image quality by supplying an afterimage protecting frame to a panel driver when a screen image is a still image. A display apparatus includes an image processor(20) and a controller(40). The image processor processes an inputted image signal to display on a display unit(10). When the image displayed on a screen is a still image, the controller controls the image processor to alternately display images, which are based on the inputted image signal, and a predetermined afterimage prevention image on the display unit. The controller controls the image processor to alternately perform a first operation for outputting image frames corresponding to the image signal, and a second operation for outputting afterimage protecting frames corresponding to the afterimage prevention image.
