An apparatus and a method for driving an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) are provided to reduce the number of times of sampling data, thereby increasing a time required to supply data to data lines of an LCD panel and preventing picture distortion. An apparatus for driving an LCD includes an LCD panel(110), a controller, and a data driver(220). The LCD panel includes a plurality of data lines. The controller controls frequency division and latch of data and controls sampling of frequency-divided data. The data driver divides the frequency of inputted digital data into a plurality of digital data signals, latches the digital data signals, converts the latched digital data signals into analog data signals, simultaneously samples the analog data signals and provides the sampled analog data signals to the data lines.
