DEVICE AND METHOD FOR GENERATING A CODED VIDEO SEQUENCE AND FOR DECODING A CODED VIDEO SEQUENCE WHILE USING AN INTER-LAYER RESIDUAL VALUE PREDICTION

A video coder carries out a movement-compensated prediction (1906, 1012, 1014, 1016) both in the base layer (1002) as well as in an enhancement layer (1004) in order to determine the movement data of the enhancement layer while using the movement data from the base layer, and/or in order to predict sequences of residual error images according to the movement-compensated prediction in the enhancement layer while using sequences of residual error images from the base layer by means of an inter-layer predictor (1018). An inter-layer combiner is used on the decoding side in order to cancel this inter-layer prediction. This improves the transfer rate in comparison to scalability schemes without inter-layer prediction with the same image quality.
