The ruler and m ethod are for drawing a geometrical pattern and for the formation of a sharp-edged pattern in a substrate. Involved is a plate-shaped body (1), provided with a central point (2), a number of rows (3) extending radially outwards from the center point, each with a number of spaced recesses (4) and possibly a number of longitudinally directed grooves (5) extending radially from the center point. The rows and the longitudinally directed grooves are radially alternating on the plate-shaped body. To enact the process, via one or more of the recesses, markings are made on the substrate. Through one or more of the grooves, drawing symbols are made on the substrate. Two or more markings are then possibly connected by lines.
