A method and a system for reproducing a file in a multi-functional product are provided to insert an index chunk into a moving picture file and reproduce the moving picture file as performing file search functions such as time search, fast forward movement and fast backward movement in case of the moving picture file without the index chunk among Divx(Digital internet video express) files. When a reproduction signal is provided from an input unit, a moving picture file stored in a multi-functional product or a moving picture file stored in a storage medium is read and it is determined whether an index chunk is included in the read moving picture file(S207). If the index chunk is not included in the read moving picture file, the index chunk is inserted into the read moving picture file so that the read moving picture file is transformed(S211). The transformed moving picture file is reproduced through an output unit under control of reproduction control(S213). When a file search signal is provided from the input unit(S215), the reproduced moving picture file is searched(S217).
