A method for receiving the software of cable broadcasting and a method for transmitting software are provided to efficiently install or update the software of a receiving device in a cable broadcasting system. A host receives information of a software code block to be received. The host receives the software code block by using the information. The host transmits download control information including reception failure information about the software code block. The information is one or more of maker information of the host, hardware version information of the host, and position information of the software code block.
