A method for automatically playing main contents in a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) player is provided to skip an advertisement and a menu play picture and immediately play the main contents of a DVD such a movie. When a DVD is inserted, a microcomputer plays the DVD(202). The microcomputer checks whether a key for requesting the fast play of main contents of the DVD is pressed(S204,S206). When the key is pressed, the microcomputer converts a current mode into an automatic play mode for the DVD(S212). The microcomputer skips the play of an advertisement and a menu picture, and immediately and automatically plays the main contents of the DVD in the automatic play mode(S214).
