PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder and a recording method which can perform high quality recording even at such a seam of recording as the same region of a recording medium can be recorded with a different recording element. SOLUTION: Recording is controlled as follows when recording is performed by moving recording heads each having a plurality of recording elements arranged in an array relatively for scanning. At first, a decision is made whether the same region of a recording medium can be recorded with a different recording element or not based on input image data. Subsequently, a decision is made whether the input image data records a text image or a figure or a half-tone image. Recording for the same recording region which can be recorded with a different recording element is controlled to change the drive ratio of different recording element according to the decision results.
