A liquid crystal display device (A1) has a plurality of pixels arranged in matrix. The liquid crystal display device is provided with a plurality of first electrodes (2R, 2G); a plurality of second electrodes (3) intersecting with the first electrodes; a liquid crystal layer arranged between the first electrode and the second electrode; a color filter for directly or indirectly covering each of the first electrodes; and a driver (7) for supplying the first electrodes and the second electrodes with signals for image display. The first electrode is connected with a scanning signal supplying terminal for the driver and is configured to receive scanning signals in a constant cycle. The second electrode is connected with a control signal supplying terminal of the driver and is configured to selectively receive control signals. The driver permits the liquid crystal layer to be in only two statuses, i.e., an on-status and off-status, by supplying the first electrodes and the second electrodes with scanning signals and the control signals, respectively.
