摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monochromatic reflective liquid crystal display apparatus having high display quality, in particular, having a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules in twisted alignment. <P>SOLUTION: The monochromatic reflective liquid crystal display apparatus comprises: a liquid crystal display panel LPN that holds a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules having twisted alignment at a twist angle of 70&deg;&plusmn;10&deg; between a first substrate having a plurality of reflective patterns projecting from the main surface of the substrate and a second substrate disposed opposing to the first substrate; and an optical element OD including a polarizing plate 61 provided on the outer face of the second substrate, a first retardation plate RF1 as a half-wave plate disposed between the polarizing plate 61 and the liquid crystal display panel LPN, and a second retardation plate RF2 as a quarter-wave plate disposed between the first retardation plate RF1 and the liquid crystal display panel LPN; wherein the retardation value &Delta;n&times;d of the liquid crystal layer LQ defined by the refractive anisotropy &Delta;n of the liquid crystal layer LQ and the thickness (d) of the liquid crystal layer LQ is configured to 200&plusmn;30 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
