<p>After-image phenomenon of a plasma display panel is suppressed by taking the pressure of discharge gas filling the panel and the distance between display electrodes into account. In the plasma display panel, one substrate provided with a plurality of display electrodes capable of surface discharge in a fixed direction and the other substrate provided with a plurality of address electrodes in the direction intersecting the display electrode are arranged oppositely such that the intersection of the display electrode and the address electrode becomes a cell, the periphery is sealed and the interior is filled with discharge gas, and when a screen is displayed, a pulse having an applying voltage increasing or decreasing as the time elapses is applied between the display electrodes in order to generate discharge for initializing charges in all cells. The pressure of discharge gas filling the panel is 200-400 Torr.</p>
