<p>A projection system and a control method thereof are provided to improve the contrast of an image and reduce optical noise generated on a screen by mixing multiple lights through a single light mixer and then scanning a selectively polarized diffracted beam by using a retardation slit. A projection system includes a light source unit, an illumination system for focusing light supplied from the light source unit, a grating(30) for receiving light from the illumination system and producing an image from the received light, a projection lens system(50) for magnifying and projecting the image produced by the grating, and a screen for displaying the projected image. The light source unit includes a plurality of light sources(11,13,15) which emit lights in different colors. The illumination system includes a light mixer(21) for mixing lights supplied from the light sources, a polarized beam splitter(23) for reflecting a polarized beam among the mixed lights and transmitting a polarized beam perpendicular to the reflected beam, and a retardation slit arranged between the polarized beam splitter and the grating.</p> |
