A backlight unit is provided to increase s-polarization and p-polarization and maximize light efficiency by providing an optical sheet having photoelasticity. At least one light source emits light. An optical sheet(302) converges and diffuses light emitted from the light source, and has photoelasticity. A brightness enhancement sheet(303) enhances brightness of light from the optical sheet, and sends the light toward a display unit. The brightness enhancement sheet is one of a BEF(Brightness Enhancement Film) and a DBEF(Dual Brightness Enhancement Film). A bottom cover(301) supports the light source and receives the light source. A reflective plate(305) is formed on a bottom surface of the bottom cover facing the light source. The optical sheet includes a diffusion sheet(302a) emitting light from the light source as light having uniform brightness distribution. A first light converging sheet(302b) and a second light converging sheet(302c) diverge light from the diffusion sheet in different directions to secure a viewing angle. |
