PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crimped monofilament by efficiently separating a crimpable multifilament. SOLUTION: The multifilament for filament separation is filaments with modified cross sections obtained by subjecting a single kind of a thermoplastic polymer to melt spinning, and has a cross-section having a ratio of the major axis (the diameter of the circumcircle) to the minor axis (the maximum diameter of the inscribed circle) of (3-15):1, a single fiber fineness of 5-55 dtex, and a crimpability with a crimp frequency of 50-200 crimps per m after drawing the filament at a draw ratio of 1.1 times at 120°C. The fiber with the flat cross section does not cause fibrillation in yarn separation differently from a conjugate fiber obtained by laminating different kinds of polymers to enable the yarn separation to be carried out in good operability.
