PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for processing a stick-like core material such as a silicon seed used for producing a polycrystaline silicon, which is capable of easily shaping the cross-section of the core material circular or polygonal over an arbitrary length, and a processed silicon seed. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus for processing the stick-like core material is characterized in that the cross-section of the stick-like core material is shaped as a form corresponding to a groove part 11 by grinding it pushing the groove part 11 to the lateral face of the stick-like core material using the processing apparatus having a groove-like grinding part corresponding to the outside diameter of the stick-like core material on the outer circumferential face of a rotating grinder 10. For example, the groove-like grinding part of the outer circumferential face of the rotating grinder is a circular, polygonal or V-shaped groove so as to shape the cross section of the stick-like core material circular, polygonal or V-shaped corresponding to the groove part 11.
