<p>The body of the electrode has an appropriate shape, and the end of the body which will come into contact with the workpieces is covered by a pad which is pref. attached to the body by welding using either electron bombardment; a laser; or friction welding. The body is pref. made of a copper-chromium alloy, whereas the pad is pref. a dense pseudo-alloy of tungsten and copper. The electrode can pref. be mounted on a machine used for multipoint spot welding; and is esp. suitable for welding steel sheet which has a surface coating, e.g. mild steel sheet covered with two layers of organic resin, one contg. Cr, the other contg. Zn; or steel coated with Zn, Al contg. 10% Si, or Pb contg. 13% Sn. In mass prodn. using e.g. multipoint spot welding, the pad prevents rapid wear of the electrode and stocking of the latter to the workpieces.</p> |
