PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing silver powder where the problems that unreduction reaction is caused in accordance with the quantity of the dispersant to be added, and the kind and quantity of the dispersant are limited as shown in the conventional silver production method in which a dispersant is added to a reaction liquid before reduction are solved, and silver powder having excellent dispersibility can be obtained, and to provide silver powder obtained thereby. SOLUTION: The silver in this invention produced by admixing an aqueous reaction system comprising either or both of a silver complex salt and a silver oxide with a reducing agent at a rate of one equivalence/min or above, so as to be reduced, and thereafter adding a dispersant to the slurry has the characteristics of excellent dispersibility satisfying a tap density of≥2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, a laser diffraction process mean grain size of 0.1 to 5μm, and a specific surface area of≤5m<SP>2</SP>/g. This silver powder is made into paste, thereafter, the paste 3 is applied to the surface of a 96% alumina substrate 1, e.g., plastered with a mending tape 2, the same is drawn with a glass rod 4 and is printed, the tape is peeled, and thereafter, the paste coating film 5 is dried, thus the characteristics of a surface roughness satisfying Ra<2μm and a coating film density satisfying≥4.5 g/cm<SP>3</SP>can be obtained.
