A process of improvement of operation of underground gasholder, which has peripheral passive or stagnant parts, by decreasing the volume of natural gas consists in that into the peripheral passive or stagnant parts of the underground depository the volume of inert gas is pumped that is heavier than natural gas, and natural gas is extracted. It is ensured non-mixing of inert gas with the volume of natural gas of active block, where operational-pressuring bore holes are located.
