A method and a system for transmitting TDM service is used in G-bit passive optical network(GPON). It includes: when the GPON makes a calculation of a round trip time, the uplink TDM service data to be sent to an optical signal receiving and transmitting unit is buffered in the entry buffer memory, and the uplink TDM service data buffered in the exit buffer memory is read out and sent out. The present invention can avoid the service interrupt of the TDM service probably produced at the time the GPON makes a calculation of a round trip time by buffering and processing the uplink service on the OLT and the ONU/ONT, thereby the TDM service is transmitted without wastage at the time the GPON system makes a calculation of a round trip time.
