PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bisphenol A, comprising condensing phenol with acetone in the presence of a strong acid type ion exchange resin catalyst to produce the bisphenol A, wherein a high quality strong acid type ion exchange resin not flowing out a left sulfonic acid is selected to stably produce the bisphenol A having a good hue. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bisphenol A, comprising condensing phenol with acetone in the presence of a strong acid type ion exchange resin catalyst, is characterized by using a strong acid type ion exchange resin giving drained water having≥5 pH at 25°C, when deionized water is passed through the strong acid type ion exchange resin in a volume of 3 volume times that that of the ion exchange resin at 25°C at a LHSV (liquid hour space velocity) of 1.0 hr<SP>-1</SP>.
