The tool can be a circular saw or a groove cutter comprising a hood (8) serving as a protection cover (2) swivel mounted with one side to a guiding unit (18). A handle (4) is attached to the hood (8) at the opposite side. The hood (8) is held in a raised position by a spring arrangement when the device is not used. The guiding unit (18) can be adjusted in depth according to the depth of the cut to be made. A hook (36) at the stop element (30) engages with a complementary hook located at the lower edge of the hood (8) in order to keep the hood (8) also in the required position.
