PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement pump adapted to secure sufficient pump discharge to allow steering without causing a response delay during steering. SOLUTION: A pump chamber 18 is formed between rotors 15 in a pump body 11, first and second fluid pressure chambers 33, 34 are formed at both sides of the moving direction of a cam ring 17 movably provided in a direction to increase or decrease a pump capacity of the pump chamber.There is provided a control valve 30 that has a spool 32 operating in the axial direction by fluid pressure differences at upstream and downstream sides of a metering throttle 50 provided on the way of a passage 27 at the discharge side of the pump chamber, and controls fluid pressure at least in a first fluid pressure chamber 33. There is provided an electronic driving means, a solenoid valve, for example, for exerting thrust in the axial direction to the spool 32 of the control valve 30.The solenoid valve 60 is provided in such a manner that it can be spaced from the spool 32, and is configured so as to be spaced from the spool 32 when the solenoid valve 60 is in an unenergized state.
