PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device and a portable apparatus allowing easy input of a plurality of input objects through one key top. SOLUTION: A control part 12 determines whether it is in a character input mode or a numeric character input mode, and if it is in the character input mode, determines which detection signal is received. In receipt of the detection signal S1, the control part 12 selects one character in the ascending order from characters corresponding to a key input part outputting the received detection signal according to the character input mode. In receipt of the detection signal S2, the control part 12 selects one character in the descending order. When the detection signal S1 and S2 are received at the same time, one character is selected in the ascending order.
