PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tower-like structure which can cope with a large amount of deformation, which is effective for a static load such as an external force caused by a wind, and which enables a large damping constant to be added to a structure during earthquakes. SOLUTION: This tower-like structure comprises, for example, a first structure such as a stack shell 2 of a smokestack 1, which cannot singly bear a design external force, and a second structure such as a steel tower 2 for horizontally supporting the first structure. A viscous damper 5 is installed in an upper connecting section, and a hysteretic damper 6 is installed in a lower connecting section. The lower hysteretic damper 6 serves as a fixing member when the external force is caused by the wind, eliminates a connecting effect by yielding during the earthquakes, and assists the effect of the upper viscous damper 5.
