A first supply input (E1) links to a source of direct current voltage and a measuring voltage (MV) to a first alternating voltage (AV) wire (V). Output (A) from a comparator (K1) drives a rectifier circuit (T1). Wired between the comparator's MV input (MVI) and a reference voltage input (RVI), measurement connections form a voltage polarity sign between the first AV wire and the RVI on the MVI. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A frequency converter with an active rectifier circuit and a drive circuit; (2) A method for controlling an active rectifier circuit with the help of a comparator with a reference voltage input and first and second supply inputs.
