PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distribute large-capacity content to a number of mobile units efficiently without using any public communication lines, such as a high-performance relay station and a portable telephone network, by reducing the load of a transmission base. SOLUTION: A mobile data transfer system comprises a transmission base device for transmitting data 20 to be distributed owned by itself; and a plurality of mobile units that operate to receive at least one portion of the data 20 to be distributed for retention, when they pass a receivable area formed by the transmission base device. The plurality of mobile units 11-13 perform transmission and reception when they are within a mutually receivable area, transfer the part of data to be distributed from one's party mobile unit for retention when one's party mobile unit retains the part of the data to be distributed not retained by an own apparatus, and repeat data transfer to be performed between the mobile units with other mobile units in the plurality of mobile units to acquire all of the data to be distributed.
