The pressing and sagging mechanism (1) has, behind a broom a press device with collected items pressed into a container or a bag (8). The press device has a transverse screw (4) having a catch plate and conveyor trough. Next to the transverse screw, to the driving direction, is a gearing on a side for movement in an opposite direction. A rotor (5) is located on the shaft of the transverse screw for providing a reversing channel.
