<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a metal carrier improving the performance of the catalyst in a short time by spreading flame over the whole core for surface treatment. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of overlapping two metal plates 4 and 5, with one or both corrugated, and winding into a cylindrical shape to form a core section 2 having a honeycomb structure, pressing the core section 2 into an outer case 3 to form a metal carrier 1 in a joined and integrated form, erecting the metal carrier 1 in the axial direction and treating the surface of the foil of the metal carrier 1 with the flame 9 of a burner 8 arranged on the side of the lower surface of the metal carrier 1, while the flame 9 being sucked with a blower 10 arranged on the side of the upper surface of the metal carrier.
