Wide range voltage converter has a mains side current converter (2) and a load side current converter (4). Direct current side is electro-conductively connected by direct current intermediate circuit (6). Alternating current side of the mains sided converter is linked with a reactance coil (8) at each entrance (28, 30, 32) and whereby the direct current intermediate circuit shows a direct current condenser (4). Wide range voltage converter has converter valves (T1,T2,T3.T4,T5,T6), each of phase (R,S,T), which are provided with a bi-directional switch and a turn off semiconductor switch (26), on the mains sided converter.
