SOLUTION: This cross groove type constant velocity universal joint comprises an outer ring 10 having ball grooves 12, 14, 16, 18 in the inner peripheral surface, an inner ring 20 having ball grooves 22, 24, 26, 28 in the outer peripheral surface, a plurality of torque transmission balls 30 interposed between the ball grooves 12, 14, 16, 18 of the outer ring 10 in pairs and the ball grooves 22, 24, 26, 28 of the inner ring 20, and a cage 40 having pockets 42 storing the torque transmission balls 30. The ball grooves of the outer ring 10 and the inner ring 20 are formed of two or more sets of ball grooves where a total of four balls comprising the pair of ball grooves 12, 14; 22, 24 tilted relative to the axis and the pair of ball grooves 16, 18; 26, 28 tilted in direction reverse to that of the pair of ball grooves relative to the axis are taken as a set.
