PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and a control method thereof capable of obtaining high image quality while attaining photographing at a shutter chance. SOLUTION: When an imaging timing is instructed before the completion of an imaging preparation operation, an imaging means images an object and an image data storage means stores the data at that point of time. Further, after the completion of the imaging preparation operation, the imaging means images the object and the image data storage means stores the data again. Thereafter whether or not a change in the layout of the object in two kinds of the image data stored in the image data storage means is within a prescribed range is judged, and then on the basis of a result of the judgement, a recording means records both the two kinds of the image data or only the data stored earlier in the image data storage means to a recording medium.
